Tips For Success
- Practice on Scrap Paper First: Try the folds on a spare sheet to get comfortable with the folding
- Press Folds Firmly: Use a ruler or fingernail to make clean, sharp folds.
- Use Double-Sided Paper: If possible, use paper that’s colored or patterned on both sides. This adds dimension and gives the final heart an extra pop.
Common Mistakes & How To Avoid Them
- Paper Tearing: Lightweight paper folds easily, but be gentle to prevent tearing, especially at the edges.
- Uneven Edges: Align edges carefully before making folds to keep the envelope symmetrical.
- Bulky Creases: Avoid pressing too hard with thicker paper, as it can create bulky creases that don’t lie flat.
Color, Paper Ideas, and Variations
- Color Themes: Use red, pink, and white for Valentine's Day; pastels for Mother’s Day; and green or festive patterns for Christmas.
- Paper Choices: Try wrapping paper with soft colors or patterns to add an elegant touch. Vintage-style or floral patterns also work beautifully.
- Personal Touches: Write a small message on the inner part of the envelope, or add a little decoration like a sticker or tiny bow for a finishing touch.
FAQ
Cardstock is often too thick for delicate folds in this project. Lightweight paper (60-80 GSM) will give you cleaner, sharper results.
Start by carefully aligning the edges before each fold. Using a bone folder or a ruler to press folds can also help improve precision.
