- Paper: 1 square sheet of paper (6" x 6" or 15 cm x 15 cm makes an ideal size for the flower and stem). Use paper that has 2 different colors on either side for a greater effect.
Paper Type:
Lightweight origami paper or any square paper you have on hand.
- Paper GSM: 60-80 gsm for lightweight paper, or 100-120 gsm for a sturdier option
Instructions
Step 1: Start with the color you want your flower to be facing down. The color facing up will become the stem.
Step 2: Fold the bottom left corner to meet the top right corner.
Step 3: Unfold previous step.
Step 4: Fold the bottom right corner to meet the top left corner.
Step 5: Unfold previous step.
Step 6: Flip your paper over.
Step 7: Fold the left edge to meet the right edge.
Step 8: Unfold previous step.
Step 9: Fold the bottom edge up to meet the top edge.
Step 10: Unfold previous step.
Step 11: Arrange your paper to sit like a diamond.
Step 12: Bring the left and right points of the paper down to meet the bottom point, allowing the paper to collapse on itself.
Step 13: Flatten the paper forming a square.
Step 14: Rotate your paper so the open ends are at the top.
Step 15: Fold both the bottom left and right diagonal edges (top layer only) to meet the middle.
Step 16: Flip your paper over from left to right and repeat previous step.
Step 17: Fold the top point down (top layer only) to meet the bottom point. Allow the top part to open slightly as you fold it down.
Step 18: Flatten the inner part of the flower. These will form the petals. You can experiment here with how your want your petals to look.
You can pull the petals all the way down and apart, or only partly. This will change how your final flower looks.
Step 19: Optional: Tuck the corners of the stem (found behind the flower petals) inside slightly. There are 2 corners on each side of the flower head.
Step 20: To round the petals, fold the tips of the petals behind slightly. Completed simple origami flower.
