Materials Needed

• 2 sheets of square paper (1 for the lid, 1 for the base)
• For larger boxes, you could use lightweight cardstock for added durability.

Instructions

Making the Base

Use your largest sheet of paper.

Step 1: Start with the color you want your box to be facing down.

Step 2: You will need to divide your paper into thirds. One way to do this is by using a ruler and measuring thirds along the paper with a pencil (e.g. if your paper is 6 inches (15cm), make marks at 2 inches (5 cm) and 4 inches (10 cm). Then fold along those lines. If you follow this method, skip to step 7.

 We will divide our paper into thirds using the "S" method. Pick up your paper and make it into an "S" shape, until the paper becomes divided equally into thirds. Then, make a slight crease on both edges.

Step 3: Still using the "S" method: Open out your paper and place it back onto your table. Fold the right edge over to the left along the mark you made.

Step 4: Still using the "S" method: Unfold previous step.

Step 5: Still using the "S" method: Fold the left edge over to the right along the other mark you made.

Step 6: Still using the "S" method: Unfold previous step. You have now divided your paper into thirds.

Step 7: Fold the right edge of the paper to the left along the existing crease.

Step 8: Fold the left edge of the paper to the right along the existing crease.

Step 9: Fold the right edge of the paper to the left edge.

Step 10: Unfold your paper completely.

Step 11: Fold both the top left and top right corners inward to meet their nearest crease lines.

Step 12: Fold the top edge down along the line shown.

Step 13: Unfold previous step.

Step 14: Make creases along the lines shown. To do this, match the top edge of the paper with each vertical crease respectively, creasing only along the lines shown. Work from right to left.

Step 15: Fold both the bottom left and right corners in to meet their nearest crease lines.

Step 16: Fold along the line shown.

Step 17: Unfold previous 2 steps.

Step 18: Fold the left edge of the paper to the right along the nearest vertical crease line.

Step 19: Fold the bottom edge up along the existing horizontal crease found at the bottom of the paper.

Step 20: Re crease along all the existing vertical lines to re-enforce the creases.

Step 21: Hold your paper as shown.

Step 22: Slip the right edge of the paper into the left edge.

Step 23: Working on the top edge. Hold the paper as shown.

Step 24: Working in an anti clockwise direction, push each of the sides in along the existing crease lines. When you get to the last edge, you want to tuck it under the others.

Step 25: Completed box base.

Making the lid

Using your smallest sheet of paper.

Step 1: Start with the color you want on the outside of the lid facing up.

Step 2: Fold the bottom edge to the top edge.

Step 3: Unfold the previous step.

Step 4: Fold the right edge to the left edge.

Step 5: Unfold previous step.

Step 6: Flip the paper over and arrange it so it sits like a diamond.

Step 7: Fold the bottom corner up to meet the centre point.

Step 8: Repeat previous step on the remaining corners.

Step 9: Fold the bottom edge to the middle point.

Step 10: Fold the top edge to meet the middle point.

Step 11: Unfold the previous two (2) steps.

Step 12: Fold the right and left edges to the middle point.
