If you're looking for a table setting detail that feels both practical and decorative, this striped diamond pouch napkin fold is a really useful one to have in your rotation.

Made using paper napkins, it forms a neat diamond-shaped pocket that can hold cutlery, name cards, or small decorative accents while also adding structure to each place setting.

What makes this version stand out is the vertical stripe running through the center of the fold.

This is created through the way the napkin is layered and folded, giving the pouch a more refined, styled look instead of a plain flat surface. It adds just enough contrast to make the design feel intentional without being complicated.

Square paper napkins (preferably medium-weight, around 60-80 GSM)

Instructions

Step 1: Typically, paper napkins come folded in quarters in a square shape. Arrange your napkin so that it sits like a diamond shape, with the open edges away from you. The folded edge should sit on the bottom left diagonal edge.

Step 2: Fold the top point down (1 layer only) to meet the bottom point.

Step 3: Unfold previous step.

Step 4: Fold the same point down (still 1 layer only) to meet the middle crease.

Step 5: Fold the same 1 layer down to meet the middle crease.

Step 6: Once again, fold the same 1 layer down but this time along the existing middle crease.

Step 10: Fold the same layer down so that its top edge meets the middle crease.

Step 11: Now, fold the same layer down once again but this time so that it sits just above the flap below.

Step 12: Flip your napkin over from left to right.

Step 13: Fold the bottom left edge up on a diagonal to meet the middle (imagine a line running down vertically from the top point to the bottom point).

Step 14: Fold the bottom right edge up on a diagonal to meet the middle.

Step 15: Flip your napkin over from left to right. Completed napkin fold.

Note: Before you start you could place a different colored napkin (color side facing up) on another napkin (color side facing down) to get a two toned napkin fold. Make sure you match the edges.

Tips For Success

  • Use slightly thicker paper napkins so the pouch holds its shape better when filled.
  • Press folds firmly to create a crisp diamond structure that stays in place.
  • Make sure the center stripe is aligned straight so the design looks balanced.
  • Avoid overly thin napkins, as they may sag when holding cutlery.
  • Choose contrasting colors if you want the stripe effect to stand out more clearly.
  • Practice once before setting multiple place settings for consistency across the table.
