Materials Needed
- Square paper: You’ll need two sheets of the same size — one for the box and one for the lid. We recommend 6x6 inches (15cm x 15cm) for a small box.
- Type of paper: Standard origami paper (70-100 gsm) works well. For a more durable box, you can use lightweight cardstock.
Instructions
For the Box
Step 1: Start with the color you want your box to be facing down.
Step 2: Fold the bottom edge to the top edge.
Step 3: Unfold previous step.
Step 4: Fold the right edge to the left edge.

Step 5: Unfold previous step.
Step 6: Flip your paper and arrange it to sit like a diamond.
Step 7: Fold the left corner to meet the right corner.
Step 8: Unfold previous step.

Step 9: Fold the bottom corner to meet the top corner.
Step 10: Unfold the previous step.
Step 11: Flip your paper over.
Step 12: Bring both the left and right corners inwards and up. They should collapse on themselves.

Step 13: Flatten the paper.
Step 14: Arrange the paper so the open end sits away from you.
Step 15: Bring the top point (top layer only) to meet the bottom point, creasing only in the middle.

Step 16: Unfold previous step.
Step 17: Fold the left and right points (top layer only) to meet the middle crease.
Step 18: Repeat previous step on the other side.
Step 19: Fold the bottom point up to meet the left and right flaps.

Step 20: Unfold previous step.
Step 21: Fold the top point (top layer only) down to meet the left and right flaps.
Step 22: Repeat previous step on the other side.
Step 23: Fold the left side (top layer over) to the right.

Step 24: Flip your paper over.
Step 25: Fold the left side (top layer over) to the right.
Step 26: Fold the top point down (top layer only).
Step 27: Repeat previous step on the other side.

Step 28: Gently open your box out and flatten the bottom.
Step 29: Add a sticker to the two open ends if needed.

FOR THE LID
Step One: Start with the color you want on the outside of the box facing up.
Step Two: Fold the bottom edge to the top edge.
Step Three: Unfold the previous step.
Step Four: Fold the right edge to the left edge.

Step Five: Unfold previous step.
Step Six: Flip the paper over and arrange it so it sits like a diamond.
Step Seven: Fold the bottom corner up to meet the centre point.
Step Eight: Repeat previous step on the remaining corners.

Step Nine: This time when you fold the bottom edge to the middle point leave a small gap of about 1-2mm.
Step Ten: Repeat previous step for the top edge.
Step Eleven: Unfold the previous two (2) steps.
Step Twleve: Fold the right and left edges to the middle point, leaving a small gap of about 1-2mm on each side.
