Note: We used a 6x6-inch (15cm x 15cm) sheet for our origami swan, but feel free to experiment with different sizes to create swans that suit your needs.
Instructions
Step 1: Start with the color you want your swan to be facing down and arrange the paper so it sits in a diamond shape in front of you.
Step 2: Bring the bottom corner to the top corner and crease.
Step 3: Unfold previous step.
Step 4: Fold the right side of the bottom half of the triangle to meet the middle crease.
Step 5: Repeat previous step for the right side of the top half of the triangle. You should now have a kite shape.
Step 6: Flip the paper over from top to bottom. Arrange it so the points of the paper sites vertically.
Step 7: Fold the left and right diagonal edges to the centre vertical crease.
Step 8: Next, fold the bottom point to meet the top point.
Step 9: Fold the top point down a little. This will be the swan’s head.
Step 10: Rotate the model so the head is on the left side.
Step 11: Fold the top section of the paper behind the bottom section.
Step 12: Gently pull on the swan’s neck and position it’s neck the way you like, and crease at the bottom to hold it in place.
Step 13: Adjust the swans head by pulling it up slightly.
Step 14: Completed origami swan.
Tips For Success
- Create a Flock: Make several swans in different colors and sizes to create a beautiful display.
- Decorate: Use markers or stickers to personalize your swans, making them unique.
- Incorporate into Arrangements: Place your origami swans in floral arrangements or as part of table settings for added charm.
- Make this origami swan using a stiff napkin to make napkin swans which you can use as a table setting for your next dinner party.
Common Mistakes & How To Avoid Them
Paper Choice: Using too thick paper can make it difficult to achieve clean folds, especially if you are making smaller swans.
