Materials Needed
- A4 Paper or U.S. Letter Paper (You could also use A5 paper to make smaller gift bags).
- Satin Ribbon
Notes:
- For easy folding, especially for smaller bags, we recommend using lightweight paper. For bigger bags, like when you are using A4 paper you could use printer paper or lightweight cardstock.
- You can also make extra large gift bags with A3 paper sized paper. However, for these sized bags we would recommend using lightweight cardstock to make them sturdier.
- A bag made with A4 paper will make a DIY gift bag that is about 3 inches (8 cm) tall by 2 inches (5.5 cm) wide.
- A bag made with A5 paper will make a DIY gift bag that is about 2 inches (5.5 cm) tall by 1.5 inches (4cm wide).
Instructions
Step 1: Start with the color you want you bag to be facing down. Arrange your paper so it sits vertically.
Step 2: Fold the bottom edge up to meet the top edge.
Step 3: Fold the right edge to meet the left edge.
Step 4: Lift the top layer up 90 degrees so it stands up.
Step 5: Open out the top layer and then flatten.
Step 6: Fold the top left layer to the right, like turning a page in a book.
Step 7: Lift the left edge 90 degrees so it stands up.
Step 8: Like before, open out the standing edge and then flatten.
Step 9: Fold the top right layer to the left, like turning a page in a book.
Step 10: Fold both the left and right edges (top layer only) in to meet the middle crease.
Step 11: Fold the same edges in to meet the middle crease once more.
Step 12: Fold the top edge down (top layer only) to meet the line shown.
Step 13: Fold the same edge down once more.
Step 14: Flip your paper over and repeat steps 10 to 13.
Step 15: Fold the bottom point up to meet the folded edges. Crease well.
Step 16: Unfold previous step.

Step 17: Gently open out your bag, flattening the bottom. Re crease along the edges as necessary.
Step 18: Take one of the top flaps and open it out as shown.
Step 19: Place your ribbon (shiny side down) in the middle of the flap. Make sure you have an even amount of ribbon on either side.
Step 20: Re fold the flap over the ribbon.
Step 21: Place anything you want in the bag and then bring the ribbon around to the front as shown.
Step 22: Close the bag and tie the ribbon into a bow to secure it. Completed mini paper DIY gift bags.
