What is Modular Origami?
Modular origami is a fascinating and creative form of origami that involves folding multiple pieces of paper to create a single, more complex structure or model.
Unlike traditional origami, which typically uses a single sheet of paper to create a figure, modular origami relies on assembling multiple smaller pieces or "modules" that fit together to form a unified design.
Each module is folded independently, and then the pieces are interlocked or connected, often without the use of glue (though some designs may use it for added stability).
The beauty of modular origami lies in its versatility — it allows for the creation of intricate geometric shapes, decorative objects, and even three-dimensional sculptures, all from just paper and clever folding techniques.
In the case of a modular origami wreath like the one in this project, each folded piece contributes to the overall structure, creating a unique and visually appealing design.
The modular nature of this wreath makes it quick to assemble, as you can fold the pieces ahead of time and then simply link them together to form your finished piece.
Modular origami is perfect for projects that require symmetry, balance, and repetition, like wreaths, stars, boxes, and more.

Tips For Success
- If you want to make a large wreath, you could use square sheets of paper that are 8 inch (20 cm). For these larger wreaths, you could use light weight cardstock.
- If you want to make a smaller wreath, you could use square sheets of paper that are 5 inch (12 cm). For these wreaths, we recommend using origami paper or lightweight paper. We don't recommend using cardstock for smaller wreaths because it can be difficult to fold.

Common Mistakes & How To Avoid Them
- Not aligning folds precisely: This can cause uneven sections in your wreath. Take your time to ensure the folds are neat and aligned.
- Using too thick paper: Stick with lightweight paper to keep the wreath flexible and easy to fold.
Color, Paper Ideas, and Variations
- For Fall or Thanksgiving: Use warm autumn colors like orange, red, and yellow for a cozy feel.
- For Christmas: Opt for classic red, green, and gold to bring holiday cheer.
- For Halloween: Black, orange, and purple create a spooky vibe.
- For Valentine’s Day: Soft pinks, reds, and whites will give a sweet, romantic touch.
- For Easter: Pastel colors like mint, lavender, and yellow will fit perfectly with the season.
- You can mix and match colors to create a unique look or stick to one solid color for a more minimalist wreath.
