Materials Needed
- 1 square sheet of paper (Recommended size: 3 inches x 3 inches (7cm x 7 cm))
- Toothpick
- Glue or tape (to attach the bunny to the toothpick)
- Marker (optional, for drawing details on the bunny)
Note: A DIY bat cake topper made with 3 inch (7cm) square paper will make a cake topper that is about 2.5 inches (7 cm) long including toothpick length and 3 inches (8.5 cm) wide.
If you want to make your cake toppers taller, you could use bamboo skewers and cut them to size.
Instructions
Making the Bat
Step 1: Start with the color you want your bat to be facing down. Arrange your paper to sit like a diamond shape.
Step 2: Fold the bottom point up to meet the top point.
Step 3: Fold the right point to meet the left point.
Step 4: Unfold previous step.
Step 5: Fold the bottom right corner up to meet the top point.
Step 6: Fold the same point down to meet the bottom edge.
Step 7: Fold the top edge of the right flap (the one you folded in the previous step) down on a diagonal towards the right so that its edge meets the right edge of the paper.
Step 8: Repeat steps 5 to 7 for the left side.
Step 9: Flip your paper over from left to right.
Step 10: Fold the top point down to meet the bottom point.
Step 11: Fold the bottom point up (top layer only) so that it sticks out over the top edge slightly.
Step 12: Flip your paper over from left to right.
Step 13: Fold the top point down as shown. This will be the face of your bat.
Step 14: Flip your paper over from left to right.
Step 15: Fold both the left and right edges of the paper in to meet the middle.

Step 16: Hold the bottom of each flap as shown and pull gently to open out the wings.

Step 1: Place your bat with the front facing down.
Step 2: Place a toothpick on the back of the bat in the middle as shown. You can slip it under the top edge if you want.
Step 3: Glue or tape the toothpick to the bat.
Step 4: Flip your paper over. Completed bat cake topper.
