Materials Needed

  • 1 square sheet of paper (origami paper or any lightweight paper)
  • Pen or markers for writing fortunes or decorating

Instructions

Step 1: Start with the color you want your fortune teller to be facing down.

Step 2: Fold the bottom left corner up to meet the top right corner.

Step 3: Unfold previous step.

Step 4: Fold the bottom right corner up to meet the top left corner.

Step 5: Unfold previous step.

Step 6: Fold all 4 corners in to meet the middle.

Step 7: Flip your paper over from left to right.

Step 8: Write the fortunes you'd like to on the areas shown.There are 8 in total.

Step 9: Once again, fold all 4 corners in to meet the middle.

Step 10: Write the numbers 1 to 8 on the top triangle flaps as shown.

Step 11: Flip your paper over from left to right.

Step 12: Decorate the four sections of the paper as you like. Usually, you put a word such as "red" "blue" "pig." Then, when you play the game you pick a word and use the amount of letters in that word to open and close the fortune teller to start the game.

Steps 7 to 12 for folding an origami fortune teller.

Step 13: Flip your paper over from left to right.

Step 14: Fold the paper in half both diagonally (bottom left corner to top right corner, unfold and bottom right corner to top left corner and unfold) and vertically (bottom edge to top edge and unfold, and left edge to right edge, unfold) creating the creases and then unfold. This will help to shape your fortune teller in the next steps.

Step 15: Fold the bottom edge to meet the top edge.

Step 16: Slightly lift the top flaps on both sides of the paper and slide your fingers underneath. Then adjust the fortune teller into shape. Completed fortune teller.
