If you've ever folded an origami crane or a simple paper flower, chances are you've already used the square base!

This essential origami base is formed by making a few easy folds and then collapsing the paper into a square shape.

It's a fundamental building block for many designs, making it a great fold to master early on.

The square base is sometimes called the preliminary base because it serves as a starting point for more complex bases like the bird base and frog base.

It's created using a mix of valley folds and mountain folds, making it a great way to practice transitioning between different fold types.

Many beginner-friendly origami projects, including flowers, animals, and modular designs, use the square base as a foundation.

Now, let's walk through the steps to make a perfect square base.
