Skill Level

Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆ (Easy)

Materials Needed

  • Square paper: Use a 6x6-inch (15cm x 15cm) sheet to create a chicken egg cup that can hold standard-sized eggs. If you want to accommodate larger eggs or decorations, you can use larger paper.
  • Type of paper: Choose lightweight cardstock (160-200 gsm) for a more durable egg cup that holds its shape. You can also use patterned origami paper to add a festive touch. Thicker paper gives the cup stability, especially if you plan to use it for hard-boiled eggs or decorative Easter eggs.

Note: We used 6x6-inch (15cm x 15cm) paper for this project, but feel free to experiment with different sizes to suit your needs. Larger paper will make bigger cups, which might be perfect for oversized Easter eggs or more decorative pieces.

Instructions

Step 1: Start with the color you want the egg cup to be facing down.

Step 2: Fold the paper in half from left to right.

Tips For Success

  • Decorating Ideas: Use colorful paper or add small decorations like googly eyes or feathers to make your chicken egg cup even more festive for Easter or other celebrations.
  • Paper Choice: Thicker paper like lightweight cardstock will help the egg cup hold its shape and support the weight of a real egg, while thinner paper is great for purely decorative uses.
  • Creative Use: These egg cups can also be used to hold small chocolates or Easter treats for a festive table setting.
  • Size Adjustment: If you want to make cups for larger eggs or decorations, simply increase the size of your paper. Start with 8x8 inch (20cm x 20cm) or 10x10-inch (25cm x 25cm) sheets for bigger versions.

Common Mistakes & How To Avoid Them

  • Paper too thin: Using paper that is too thin may not provide enough support for heavier eggs or items. Be sure to choose paper that’s sturdy enough to hold the egg without collapsing.
  • Inconsistent folds: Ensure your folds are sharp and precise to keep the chicken egg cup symmetrical and stable. Using a bone folder or the edge of a ruler can help with clean, crisp folds.
