Bright, cheerful, and just a little bit quirky, this 3D origami strawberry is a perfect paper craft to try when you want something cute and creative.

Made from a single square sheet of paper, it comes together with a few easy folds and no glue needed—unless you’re getting crafty with color.

It’s a great fit for springtime crafts, summer party décor, or even something a bit playful for Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day.

These little strawberries look great grouped in a small bowl, added to a homemade garland, or even used as sweet little placeholders or cupcake toppers.

If you’ve got double-sided paper with red on one side and green on the other, that’s ideal—but if not, markers or paint work great.

You can also glue two sheets of paper together: one red, one green, to get that classic berry look.

Paper SizeFinal Origami Strawberry Size
Small Origami Strawberry3 inches x 3 inches (7.5 cm x 7.5 cm)1 inches x 0.40 inches(3.5 cm x 1 cm)
Medium Origami Strawberry6 inches x 6 inches (15 cm x 15 cm)2 inches x 1.5 inches (5.5 cm x 3 cm)

Instructions

Step 1: Start with the color you want your strawberry to be facing up. The opposite side will become the stem.

Note: You can decorate your paper now using a pen or marker for the strawberry spots.

Or you could wait until you have completely folded your strawberry and then decorate it. If you decide to decorate your strawberry now and are using a marker be careful that it doesn’t bleed through the paper (otherwise the spots could end up on your stem too!).

Step 2: Fold the bottom left corner up to meet the top right corner.

Step 3: Unfold previous step.

Step 4:  Fold the bottom right corner up to meet the top left corner.

Steps 1 to 4.

Step 5: Unfold previous step.

Step 6: Flip your paper over from left to right.

Step 7: Fold the bottom edge to the top edge.

Step 8: Unfold previous step.

Steps 5 to 8.

Step 9: Fold the left edge to the right edge.

Step 10: Unfold previous step.

Step 11: Rotate your paper 45 degrees so that it sits like a diamond.

Steps 9 to 11.

Step 12: Hold the left and right sides of the paper and bring the left and right points to meet bottom point. You will find the paper starts to collapse on itself. It will form a square.

Step 13: Making sure the open edge is towards you: Fold the top right diagonal edge (top layer only) to the middle crease.

Steps 12 to 13.

Step 14: Unfold previous step.

Step 15: Lift the top right flap up so it stands 90 degrees along the middle crease.

Step 16: Slightly open out the flap and then squash fold so that it sits flat.

Steps 14 to 16.

Step 17: Fold the left side of the top flap to the right.

Step 18: Repeat steps 13 to 17 for the left side.

Step 19: Flip your paper over from left to right.

Step 20: Repeat steps 13 to 18.

Steps 17 to 20.

Step 21: Fold the bottom left and right diagonal edges (top layer only) in to meet the middle crease.

Step 22: Fold the bottom point up (top layer only) so that its folded edge aligns with the edge of the colored section.

Step 23: Flip your paper over from left to right and repeat steps 21 to 22.

Step 24: Turn the left side of the paper (2 layers) to the right, like you are turning a page in a book.

Steps 21 to 24.

Step 25: Flip your paper over and repeat previous step. You should now have a solid color on both the front and back.

Step 26: Repeat steps 21 to 22 for both sides.

Step 27: Turn the left side of the paper (1 layer only) to the right. Then, flip your paper over and repeat on the other side. You will now have a solid color on either side of your paper.

Step 28: Fold the bottom left and right edges (top layer only) of the paper in to meet the middle. Then, flip your paper over and repeat on the other side.

Steps 25 to 28.

Step 29: Turn the left side of the paper (2 layers) to the right. Then, flip your paper over and repeat on the other side. Once again you will have a solid color on either side of your paper.

Step 30: Repeat step 28.

Steps 29 to 30.

Step 31: Open out your strawberry as shown.

Step 32: Lift the large inner triangle flaps (there are 4) outward as shown.

Step 33: Gently pull on your strawberry’s sides to give it shape. Be careful not to unfold your strawberry as you do this. Pull on opposite sides of the strawberry, working your way around. Also, slightly flatten the bottom so that it can stand.

Step 34: Completed strawberry. You can adjust the strawberry as you like – curl the leaves, make it taller or shorter and so on.

Decorate your strawberry if you haven’t already. If you were not able to get paper that is green on one side you can use markers or paint to decorate your leaves if you want.

Tips For Success

  • Use thin origami paper or regular printer paper to make folding easier
  • Color one side red and leave the tip green if you don’t have double-sided paper
  • Gently curl the “leaf” tip with a pencil
  • Draw tiny black or white dots after folding to give it that “seed” texture
  • Try making a few different sizes and bunching them together—they look even cuter in a group

Color, Paper Ideas, and Variations

  • Red & green (classic look): Stick with the traditional strawberry colors for an instantly recognizable finish
  • Pink & mint or pastel tones: Perfect for baby showers, Easter, or a softer palette
  • Patterned paper: Use paper with tiny flowers, polka dots, or even newspaper for something unique
  • Two-tone glued paper: Glue red and green sheets together if you don’t have double-sided paper
  • Mini strawberries: Use 3 inches x 3 inches (7.5cm x 7.5cm) sheets for tiny decorations or card inserts
  • Let kids color their own paper before folding—each one will be unique!

FAQ

Can I make this with regular printer paper?

Yes! Just trim it into a square and color it if you want. It folds up just fine.

Do I need special tools or glue?

Nope! The basic version needs only one square of paper. But if you’re decorating or combining colors, you might want glue or markers on hand.
